Scott and Karen, Des Moines
Scott and Karen were ready to sell their home. Built in 1955, the home had been updated. The Kottkes had recently updated the main bathroom with new flooring and fixtures. They had made some unusual improvements to the lower level by converting one bedroom to a family room, adding three egress windows to allow more daylight. To the lower level, they also added a master bedroom with a new three-quarter bath. They had replaced most of the remaining windows, and had installed in a new furnace and central air. There were two pantries, a 2 ½ car garage and a fenced back yard.
In August 2002, Scott and Karen contacted Next Generation Realty, a flat fee broker, about putting their home on the market. They worked with their agent to get the home listed. They wrote up all the paperwork on a Thursday and held their first open house the following Sunday. About 20 families came through the home that day. By the following week there were two separate offers to buy their home. They closed on the home just a month after the offer was accepted.
Scott said “Next Generation Realty did a great job handling all of the paperwork.” He went on to say they liked all the advertising exposure they received and the feature sheets that were made available to potential buyers.
They saved over $5,000 by selling their home with Next Generation Realty compared to traditional real estate companies that charge a 7 percent fee based on the sales price of a home. They said that Next Generation Realty is the only real estate company they would use in the future.
